Day two. Getting settled.
The job is good — busy and interesting in the way that new work always is when everything is unfamiliar and you’re learning the landscape at the same time as the role. Thomas has been spending his days out in the community, meeting locals, and his evening reports have been the best part of the day.
Animals update, because I know that’s why half of you are here:
The LitterKwitter has taken a turn. We switched to flushable pellets to reduce shipping weight — sensible in theory, deeply unpopular in practice. Clyde expressed his disapproval via the sink. Bonnie chose my freshly-washed bedding. We are returning to step one.
Daisy has decided 4am is the appropriate time for her walks.
We caught a wifi signal long enough to connect with family, which was more of a relief than I expected. I function best when I can check in — not because I’m anxious by nature, but because disconnection creates a kind of low hum of worry that takes up bandwidth I’d rather use elsewhere. Knowing everyone is okay lets me be fully present where I am.
Still waiting on our own internet. When that comes in, things will feel considerably more manageable.
